Landing Page Writing Sample

A few months ago I published an article on How to craft an effective landing page after researching and comparing some successful landing pages out there.

The success elements I discovered are still largely valid: plenty white space, social proof, one prominent CTA button, etc.

However, after learning and watching a number of copywriting tutorials, I found that there are many more factors to consider.

And here are some additional tweaks that I used for this project:

My writing process

  1. Figured out my ideal customer avatar:

    - A Japanese language learner who wants to learn and improve conversational Japanese. He is a serious learner; not just wants to learn basic conversation phrases for travel.

[Struggle]- Having hard time understanding casual, conversational Japanese.
    - His Japanese sounds very formal/business-y/and still like a textbook

    - Having hard time carrying nonstoppable conversation with Japanese people.

[Desire] - Be able to speak in Japanese fluently, whether in business setting or casually.

  2. Used the PAS (Problem, Agitation, Solution) framework.

  3. Made the copy more “YOU” focused.

  4. Instead of showing the opt-in form right away, I made it a 2-step process based on the Zeigarnik effect (“users are far more likely to complete a task once they have initially started the process.”)

  5. Added click triggers.
